Microsoft has officially confirmed what they are planning when it comes to game trade on Xbox One.
The rumours are basically true and there will be a 24 hour internet check if you play on your own console. If there is no internet, games will be unplayable. Also, if you play on a friend’s console, the console will check for internet connection every hour.
There will be no loaning, renting or private sales. You can sell a game to a friend who has been on your friends list for a month. Trade-ins are only available at specific retailers approved by the platform holder.
10 of your family members can play games on your console without any restriction.
Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.
It’s not clear whether Sony would follow the same path but there are rumblings of them doing so.
