The Xbox 360 has been discontinued by Microsoft and after 10 long years it really feels like a titan of the video game industry is being put to rest.

The console was launched in 2005 a year before the PS3 and was the worldwide best selling HD platform for many many years before PS3 eventually caught up.

People who own the Xbox 360 don’t have to be worried as Microsoft will support the console with Xbox Live services and other things that made the console great.

The production of new consoles have been stopped and the existing inventory will remain in shelves until it is sold out. Expect some price drops soon for the console.

“Xbox 360 means a lot to everyone in Microsoft. And while we’ve had an amazing run, the realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us. Which is why we have made the decision to stop manufacturing new Xbox 360 consoles. We will continue to sell existing inventory of Xbox 360 consoles, with availability varying by country,” Xbox boss Phil Spencer said.

Xbox 360 games can be enjoyed on the Xbox One via backward compatibility at no extra cost.
