World of Warcraft subscriber count falls by 1.3 million, now at 8 million

World of Warcraft is still a leading MMO but that could change soon based on Activision’s financial results

They have revealed that the people may be having enough of the MMO since the subscriber count has fell by 1.3 million over the lsat three months.

The same thing happened last year but the drop wasn’t so significant, and this may be a cause for concern due to heavy competition from games like Guild Wars 2 and the likes.

The current count is at 8.3 million subscriptions which is still way ahead of other MMOs. The drop was mainly in the East and some in the West according to the results.

“And while we do believe further declines are likely, and we expect to have fewer subscribers a year than we do today, World of Warcraft remains one of the most successful franchises in the history of entertainment,” Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said.

“We believe in the long-term value of this franchise and will continue to commit substantial resources to World of Warcraft.”

New games in the series will most likely increase the interest people have lost, but the market is challenging right now.
