“We didn’t consider” always-on requirement for PS4,” says Yoshida

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has revealed that always-online was never on the cards for the PS4.

This has been such a delicate matter nowadays with Microsoft facing a lot of backlash over rumours of always-online connection required for the next Xbox, but Sony has come out and said that they never considered it for the system.

The reasoning was simple. Plenty of countries don’t have infrastructure to support such a console.

“Did we consider it? No, we didn’t consider it,” he told GameInformer. “The main reason being that many countries don’t have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust Internet.”

Sony has been making all the right moves with the PS4 lately and there’s still a lot of things we don’t know about the system.
