Thief 4 is now simply called ‘Thief’. The game has been officially revealed today along with a bunch of information.
The series hero Garrett is back and he looks stunning as you can see from the screenshots that shows the beautiful visuals on offer. It’s a next-gen game and will be released in 2014.
The city is known as the “City”, and is a Gothic, industrial metropolis.
“Unfortunately, the City is broiling with social tension as it is ravaged by a plague and lorded over by a political tyrant known as the Baron. In order to survive his adventures, Garrett will have to pay attention to his environment and make use of the may possible paths through each of the game’s levels.”
Here’s some new information from the magazine.
There are multiple entrances and exits in each room and multiple options available for stealth approach. There’s a new focus mechanic which aids Garrett’s vision as he navigates through open levels. It lights up the screen and highlights pipes you can climb and also the candles you can put out to make the room darker.
It is upgradable. There’s also a fingerprint system that gives hints on which drawers are best to look in, and every drawer is accessible. Garrett can also pickpocket (duh).
You can use the focus mode while pickpocketing to slow time and swipe up to three times as many items from others. Money can be used to upgrade supplies and equipment at the end of each mission. There’s a navigation beacon that shows players where to go.
Garrett isn’t supposed to be fighting people, and he cannot take on four or more guards easily. Guards and NPCs are aware of the level and will check hiding spots. This makes the game more dynamic.
- Blackjack: Use when sneaking up behind guards to knock them unconscious
- Bow: Powerful, can be used outside of combat (ex: fire at a bottle in another room to lure a guard away, trigger a switch to lock the guard inside)
- Specialty Arrows: different uses; dry-ice arrow can be used to snuff flames from far away; smoke-starter arrow: cover and a distraction
- Claw: Grapple attaches to certain points
We will update this post once we get more information, and also please buy the latest issue of Game Informer Magazine if you can, they deserve some love. Here’s a trailer as well which shows the devs talking about the game: (Thanks, GameInformer)
