Surface with Windows 8 pro: Microsoft prices itself out of the market

Microsoft has a knack of doing dumb things and they have done it once more with Surface with Windows 8 pro pricing.

The tablet will cost you $899 for the 64GB model, which is frankly, quite a stupid move and I have no idea what the suits at the company are thinking. If they are creating a competitor for the iPad then pricing is something they need to get right.

Surface’s potential is amazing, however, it has been battered in sales due to poor decisions by the company. $899 is the sort of price only high end consumers will pay who are insignificant compared to the people who buy the iPad in droves. The pricing needs to be accurate and according to me shouldn’t have been more than $600.

I know it has Windows 8 but unless and until you can create a mass market device with affordable pricing, you aren’t going to achieve success like Apple.

The 120GB is priced at $999 and it is simply something that very few people will buy. The pricing was revealed by Microsoft on their blog.

The tablet is said to run Windows 7 desktop applications as well. Surface with Windows 8 Pro has an Intel Core i5 processor. It also features a 10.6” 16:9 ClearType display which is 1920×1080 full HD and also has full-size USB 3.0 port.

Microsoft has said that they will be released in January 2013.
