Star Wars: Battlefront 2 US Debut “Weak”

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 has been mired in controversy ever since its monetization model was revealed. Gamers have been very vocal and it looks like it has hit EA in the pocket as well as the game debuted pretty poorly and underperformed selling only 882,000 units in the US, according to the NPD.

These are the retail sales for the game and it’s unclear how much the digital sales are, although doesn’t look that high considering Battlefront 1 debuted at 2.1 million units in the US at retail.

EA has shutdown the microtransactions in the game temporarily and are planning to bring it back later.

Analyst Wedbush thinks that the sales could rebound this month after the release of the movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“We believe that the loyalty of the Star Wars fan base, the game’s appeal as a holiday gift and the release of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi on December 15 will result in the sales of the game bouncing back.”

EA had earlier issued an unpopular response on Reddit leading to the most downvoted comment of all time on the site.

Call of Duty: World War 2 meanwhile blazed away to 4.4 million units sold.
