Sony have announced their FY 2015 Q2 results and it seems Kazuo Hirai has effectively turned around Sony after 7 years of huge losses. The company as a whole will make a big profit for the whole fiscal year and the video game division is doing excellent as well.
The PS4 has hit 29.3 million units in shipments which means it should be around 35 million or more by the end of 2015 considering the holiday period and the official price drop. They shipped around 6.4 million PS4s during the holiday quarter last year and if they can match that they will easily hit 35 million which is a great install base.
It’s an impressive achievement considering they achieved this in just 2 years and a lot of games are expected to be released in 2016 like Uncharted 4: A thief’s End, Detroit: Becoming Human and more, which should help with maintaining the momentum.
Sony is expected to launch the PlayStation VR soon and it is getting tons of software support as evident by the Paris Games Week demonstrations.
