Sony is no longer a shareholder in Square Enix as they have sold about 9,520,000 shares they had in the company. This is expected to add 4.8 billion Yen ($47 million) to Sony’s profits for the current fiscal year.
Having shares in the company never benefitted Sony in terms of exclusive games or otherwise, so this seems to be a wise move. Maybe they feel Square Enix has peaked and it is better to sell off their shares now.
The shares will be transfered to SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. which is a brokerage firm in Japan.
