The PlayStation Network is under stress right now and is undergoing a massive DDOS attack. Earlier there was a SOE official who confirmed that it was a “large scale attack”.
Since then a bunch of hacker groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks, and one even revealed that this problem could have been avoided if Sony used multiple datacenters instead of one.
Here’s the official statement from Sony:
Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.
Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.
We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.
We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
There is no ETA of when the network will be up but some people seem to be logged in with no problems.
