A lot of studios have announced layoffs in the past few years and now Sucker Punch Productions is the one to suffer. They are a Sony first party studio that just put out Infamous: Second Son earlier this year.
What could be the reason for the layoffs? Did the game not sell as per their expectations? It’s hard to say at this point since Infamous is not a huge selling franchise, but Sony should have been pleased with at least 1 million sales.
First party games are all about making the hardware attractive for people to buy, and Infamous: Second Son is a graphical showcase for the PS4.
Here’s the official statement from Sony:
SCEA can confirm a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions. Sucker Punch is appreciative of the tremendous work team members contributed to the inFAMOUS and Sly Cooper series, and wishes them the best in their next endeavors.
