EA has announced that SimCity has sold 1.1 million copies in just two weeks.
The game which went through a lot of issues and saw people asking for refunds left, right and center, sold the most copies out of any game in the franchise.
“SimCity had a great weekend with sales strong across both North America and Europe, adding to overwhelming demand at launch that has us tracking well beyond expectations for the game,” EA’s Peter Moore said. “SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online age.”
54% of sales were from digital sales and out of that 44% came from Origin.
The announcement of always online DRM was done way before the game was launched, and in spite of that people managed to buy it in droves. The game may not have long legs but a PC game selling 1.1 million should be a profitable venture for EA.
EA recently announced a free game as compensation for SimCity buyers and here’s the list from which users can pick the one they want.
