Sony’s next-generation console could be announced this May, according to a high ranked Sony official.
There were a lot of rumours and some inside sources had suggested that the machine will be revealed soon, but it seems those sources are indeed correct as the vice president of Home Entertainment at Sony, Hiroshi Sakamoto, has revealed the announcement bit to a Chilean news site.
“That’s still a big secret, but our friends at Sony PlayStation are getting prepared. For now, I can only say that we’re focused in the gaming event E3, set for this June. This announcement may be then, or possibly earlier in May,” he told El Mercurio On-Line.
“…we expect [Sony] to deliver great news, but we must wait until May at least.”
So what could this mean? Considering the PlayStation division is under tight lockdown due to information not leaking out, even the home entertainment vice president should have no clue about it. However, leaks can come from unexpected sources, and this also fits in with what we have heard before.
We earlier covered that the PS4 could be launched mid-2014 due to production delay for key components. Sony has also created a tech that suppresses second hand game sales, let’s hope it doesn’t end up in this new console.
What do you think about this?
