An anonymous developer has revealed that Sony has mandated Vita remote play for all games except a few.
Those few are ones that support the PS Eye camera. This is good news since it is something that developers can’t ignore due to the mandate, and the Vita will get access to the entire PS4 library which will no doubt get a lot of third-party support.
Digital Foundry explains that “Remote Play works by downscaling the 1080p framebuffer to the Vita’s native 960×544 resolution, using the PS4’s in-built hardware h.264 video encoder to compress the image. This is then beamed out over WiFi to the Vita, which decodes the video and sends back controller inputs to the PlayStation 4.”
