PS4 and Xbox One GPU Compared, Startling Difference Between The Two

PS4 holds a spec advantage over the Xbox One. The system has better RAM but the CPU is quite similar. So what about the GPU?

Microsoft has not released the official specs of the Xbox One GPU, but we do know the rest and people have figured out the GPU’s capabilities. It’s 30% weaker than the PS4 in theoretical performance and this image below explains what a big difference there is between them both.

PS4 and Xbox One GPU

The PS4 GPU can provide 1.84 teraflops of power, while the Xbox One GPU is rumoured to be 1.24 teraflops.

The clock speeds are quite similar although there have been rumours of a recent downgrade, but nothing is confirmed so far.

The PS4 GPU is drastically better and will probably show in multiplatform games. However, if developers use the Xbox One as a lowest common denominator and develop using its specs, then we won’t be seeing a lot of differences between the two.

It also depends on the install base, and considering the Xbox 360 had an advantage last gen, the PS4 could have one this gen due to its lower price and superior specs.

nothing worst then comparing specs when one has not been officially announced in anyway. theory comparing does nothing but makes someone sound like a fanboy…. but i guess nobody comes to this website for intelligent reporting, more or less this article based on nothing.
custom chips…which microsoft has in almost all of its components are not so easily compared until the details of the chips are known.. what a pathetic article.

Have you wondered why Microsoft hasn’t announced the GPU specs yet? Guess why…

They haven’t bothered to share their specs and coming out with 5 billion transistors isn’t fooling anyone. Saying specs doesn’t matter is partially right because I don’t think the difference with multi plat games will be that big but wait until someone like Naughty Dog gets to grips with it. Then you’ll see what the machine can do.

Their machine is less powerful than the PS4 and costs more (thank the kinect for that) so I think people are going to look at the money as well. Pricing your console the same as when the PS3 launched in a worse economy isn’t the smartest move.

You do realize, When calling anyone or anything a fanboy based off of speculation. You come off as .. a fanboy. Microsoft already confessed their system was under powered compared do you not remember the article about them saying specs aren’t important?

    • Steven Voulis

      July 5, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Actually I’ve just seen all your post, you want to call anyone a fanboy..Clearly you are a very big one. Stay on your boat, let the systems speak for themselves, hold on to the balls of Microsoft as you are so use to doing. let them rob you blind, You wanna talk about services and DRM. Microsoft is doing the same exact thing with their free games..Except you get garbage games like AC2, really old games that cost anywhere from 2-5 dollars. Thats cool though cause over on the Playstation side you get games like Sleeping Dogs,BF3, Uncharted 3, oh and 61 other games.

So you buy a car without knowing what the car is capable of ???? Nice argument.. Furthermore the fact that microsoft themselves are so called customizing parts is quite scary.. When was microsoft ever known for designing and manufacturing reliable hardware products let alone components ??? never.. no record of this..

I don’t know if you know this but without actual specs how can you provide tools for the devs to use ?? your argument does not make sense.. You need a definite spec sheet..

Have you ever purchased a motherboard without specs ?? i mean cmon even my bottled water has nutrition facts on it.. and your right you cannot compare theoretical specs.. 5 months left for the release date and they still have theoretical specs..

Which again explains why all the devs at E3’s Microsoft Press conference were using Windows 7 PC’s and Nvidia graphics cards.. Sadly eurogamer claimed there were running on Xbox One dev kits and fanboys pissed their pants over fake news..

The most reliable source of the possible Xbox One spec sheet was delivered by anandtech and it still does not look good..

Hardware has little to no impact on actual public appeal.

The PS was half the machine of the N64, but killed the N64 in market.
The PS2 was weaker than the Xbox but had better games.
The PS3 was a more powerful system than the 360, but the 360 took the American market.

If history is any predictor of future performance than the Xbox One will take the market this time around.

    • Arron Clements

      July 5, 2013 at 9:03 pm

Only the evidence seems to indicate that the PS4 is outselling the XBONE by a very wide margin.

      • Kenny Stubbs

        July 5, 2013 at 9:18 pm

I’m not sure why people are down voting you when you are right. Why do you think MS reversed their policies? It wasn’t because of the out cry or people telling them they don’t like their policies. They have shareholders and they know they were getting destroyed with preorders. The yearly UK Amazon best sellers has the PS4 at 3 while the Xbox One is at 71

        • Arron Clements

          July 5, 2013 at 10:30 pm

People have a right to disagree with me and I guess time will tell if I’m right or not. I suspect that I am right but I’m sure those that disagree with me will be as passionate about their POV as I am about mine! (They are wrong though :P)

      • Roy Reardon

        July 5, 2013 at 9:20 pm

Sure it is. I would expect nothing else, but it is selling more due to price not hardware. The vast majority of the market doesn’t care for one over the other so they will buy the cheapest one.

        • Darrius

          July 5, 2013 at 9:32 pm

But when the cheaper one actually has better hardware…..Actually that is unprecedented. I can not recall ever before seeing the cheaper of two competing products actually have better hardware. I’ve never seen that before anywhere else in life.

But it doesn’t bode well for the Xbone. Once the people see that more of their friends have PS4’s, AND the PS4 is $100 cheaper, AND the man across the counter at Gamestop tells them that the PS4 has better hardware inside of it, AND that PSPlus gives you free NEW games every month while XBL doesn’t; it becomes very difficult to see anyone but the hardest core Xbox fan actually buying the Xbone.

If the Xbone doesn’t get these preorder numbers up to be even with the PS4 by launch then it is going to be a long generation for Microsoft.

          • Roy Reardon

            July 5, 2013 at 10:24 pm

We won’t really know until mid to late 2014. Every unit that hits the shelf before January will sell from both companies, but the PS4 should best the One by 50% by the end of 2014.

        • Aaron Easter

          July 5, 2013 at 9:40 pm

If that were totally true we’d all have a wiiu by now.
The majority of “laymen” that enjoy gaming only got confused by xbox and it’s message. A lot of my friends owned a 360 only uP until this last year, only one has said he’d get the xbox one because he likes the cable features.
You know some people think they can throw out their cable boxs and replace it with an xbox?
Too much misinformation, too much confusion. Consumers are like a fire, going with the path of least resistance.

          July 5, 2013 at 10:28 pm

Only your original argument is predicated on the argument that the console with the lowest hardware specs will be the winner. You mentioned nothing about price and even then your argument doesn’t hold water, the PS3 has pushed the XBOX 360 into third place despite being more expensive for the entirety of its lifecycle.

The issue Microsoft have is that they’ve resorted to form in terms of their anti-consumer and anti-competative practices, they’ve let the cat out of the bag with what their vision of the future is and the consumer has voted with their wallets. This combined with a more expensive system, lower specs, a camera that most people don’t care for, and negative brand sentiment caused by the poor 360 build quality and a lack of a clear narrative on why consumers should invest in the XBONE means that the XBONE is pretty much a toxic product that’s dead before it even hits the market. They don’t even have a clue on how to exploit the IP they own in the same way that Nintendo or Sony do to boost their product offering when they’re facing a difficult market.

          • Roy Reardon

            July 5, 2013 at 10:41 pm

I’m not sure my original statement was anything more than pointing out history. I’ve said many time I believe Sony has a better market position.

      July 5, 2013 at 9:20 pm

The PS1 hit market much earlier than the N64 did also.

      • Roy Reardon

        July 5, 2013 at 9:22 pm

Only by a year. 1995 compared to 1996.

Just as a note the PS sold around 100 million while the N64 only hit about 33 million but was at least twice the machine.

        • PIRATE or NINJA

          July 5, 2013 at 9:25 pm

I think a lot of that came down to the library of games available. Sony had a good start with PS1 and the games available were really good and N64 just didnt have a lot to compete. Goldeneye and Mario were not enuff

          • Roy Reardon

            July 5, 2013 at 10:26 pm

Yeah and the big N is doing the same thing with the WiiU. If they would put games out on the system they would sell. The market still hold Nintendo in high regard, just give us games!!

    • Steven Voulis

      July 5, 2013 at 9:25 pm

Normally I’d agree with you but with the idea that these consoles will have a 10+ year live cycle, I feel power is very important to keep the longevity of the systems alive. Yea Xbox took American market, but now look at it, hardly any exclusives nothing really good, nothing we haven’t seen before. Playstation has The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls later on. To me it’s the idea that what I invest is will have the staying power I want.

    • arleo09 .

      July 5, 2013 at 9:27 pm

Yes you precise it very well BUT there is a little difference here.

PS3 has a more powerful CPU than the X360 with a weaker GPU. While that CPU is very very difficult to master. That’s why devs had a hard time developing for PS3. And PS3 came out at $600. All those reasons made the X360 win the US market. But PS3 did a good job catching it, and PS3 is now dominating worlwide and in Europe.

Now the PS4, not only has a more powerful GPU, a better architecture (unified pool of memory very easy to develop for) and it’s cheaper. All the flaws of PS3 that made it harder to work on have been corrected.
So devs have a more powerful system which they can master easily —> they sure will use it a priori. And it’s cheaper, so it will attract many people. It’ll maybe have a close fight in the US with X-one, but in Europe/Japan and worldwide I think it will outsell X360, again.

      • Roy Reardon

        July 5, 2013 at 9:35 pm

I can’t disagree the price will sell the PS4 over the One for years. That has to be corrected if MS wants a shot in any market.

If anybody ever took an intro business class they would tell you its about market share not sales , my case in point look at apple and samsung in the cell phones. Samsung is killing apple in over all sales but apple has a great market share thats making them billions. The over all winner is the consumer because they have better choices. I dont care which is better ps4 or xbox one because im buying both lol lol !!!!!

      • Roy Reardon

        July 5, 2013 at 10:35 pm

        Ok which part is opinion?
The PS was a 32-bit system, the N64 was a 64-bit system. I can explain the differences in that if you need me to but lets just say it was twice as fast. (its more than twice, but lets just say twice)

The PS2 and Xbox part can get into a bit of an agruement as to true gaming power and I guess could lead to a personal opinion, but raw processing power the Xbox was faster.

If I’m ignorant, what part am I ignoring?

That a bit extreme isn’t it?

If you are using a computer you are always online.
If you use a cell phone all of your data is stored somewhere.
If you use iTunes you are already using DRM products.

The all digital gaming was a great idea and sharing with 10 “family” members would have saved people a lot of money.

      • Kenny Stubbs

        July 5, 2013 at 9:34 pm

“If you are using a computer you are always online.”
“If you use a cell phone all of your data is stored somewhere.”

Erm no you’re not. My PC runs fine without being connected to the internet and so does my phone. The ‘family plan’ was only 1 hour trials apparently. Do you really think that if publishers are trying to kill used games they would allow 1 copy of their game to be shared fully with 10 other people?

        • Roy Reardon

          July 5, 2013 at 9:42 pm

The vast majority of computers, phones, TV set boxes, even new cars are always on. Is it a requirement on those devices? No, but that wasn’t the point. The point was it is no big deal. Almost all of my electronics are always on.

And yes cell phone carriers keep all of your data, calls texts, where you are all of it.

Marc Whitten (I think thats his name) said the demo rumor was BS. If you have 10 friends on your list an you all buy 4 games a year that would have been 40 games you could have played.

          • Kenny Stubbs

            July 5, 2013 at 9:47 pm

I can’t believe publishers would have allowed that. The revenue losses alone would have made them say no.

The point is that my PC, phone or whatever will work without an internet connection. The Xbox One wouldn’t have worked. That’s where the issue came from. Yes the experience is enhanced on devices that are connected but if I’m not then my device shouldn’t become a brick. That’s the ridiculousness that people don’t realise. I wasn’t prepared to pay over £400 for a box that would be unable to perform it’s core function should my internet go down or I move or something like that.

It is a big deal for some people and your ignorance to that fact is incredible. Just look at the out cry from the Us military. It’s ok though because Don Mattrick had a solution if you had a poor internet connection or none at all. It’s called the Xbox 360. I call it the PS4 and so do a lot of others.

I never said it wasn’t a big deal for some people. As a matter of fact I posted many times how this was unacceptable for the service men and women throughout the world as well as many others. MS certainly could have come out with a duel plan for those who wanted the digital freedom and another for anyone that wanted the traditional discs.
As it is now I don’t see any advantage in buying digital.

Digital freedom? It’s less free than traditional methods of content distribution and is a reason why I have taken the decision to where possible take the physical option if its available. That applies to music, movies and games.

….You actually believe that it is unacceptable to create a home entertainment console that can’t be used in all military units?

That consoles are REQUIRED to be able to be TAKEN TO WAR?

Dude, are you fucking high? I can understand that servicemen and women wants to do something when not actively engaged in combat, patrolling and otherwise, but they can also read books, use laptops, or use other consoles.

If I read your statement wrongly, I apologize for my tone. If not, I’m questioning your way of reasoning.

I wouldn’t trust any MS executive to be straight about anything to do with the XBONE. They could argue that they intended every XBONE to fart chocolate covered rainbows but this is now no longer possible because of the change in DRM policy and while we know that isn’t true we can’t exactly prove it.

There is no way on earth that they would have allowed you to share every game you leased on the XBONE with 10 other people, think about that for one moment and think about the implications of what that exactly means in terms of lost sales and then consider exactly how silly it is to continue to perpetuate this myth.

            4 people 40 games…

you still haven’t answered his question, how is that better for devs? Look at all the missing sales. How about the next 4 people? another 40 games? Again lost sales. How is that better than just buying used games? at least if you can trade your games in you can use that credit toward a new game.

          • Marius S. Moe

            July 8, 2013 at 8:45 pm

Because only one person could loan it at any given time. If several people wanted to play it at the same time, they would have to buy it. Only 1 version of a digital game could be on loan in a group.

It incentivized buying the game if it was good, as people want to play what their friends play, at the same time.

More money to developers, more value for customers. THAT’s how it would attempt to defeat used games. Now, the people who got rid of used games a long while ago (Steam) are setting up to use microsofts idea, so steam users can loan games to one another.

When they launch the feature, they will be lauded as the best and kindest company in the world, by doing what Microsoft wanted to do but changed because the customers wanted something else.

            Sometimes I just hate people.

          • Jeff Pee

            July 9, 2013 at 1:58 am

Yes, sometimes I hate people too!

That’s the same people who would exploit this service. Come on you know they will. How long does it take a person to beat a game? I know some people who beat a game over the weekend, and if there is no multiplayer they have no need to keep it. How simple would it be for a group of friends to coordinate this type of system? You just need to agree on who plays it first, who gets it next or even just the times to play it. Me and my buddies who play videogames for the most part play at different times. It’s only when we coordinate a time that we actually play a game together. We live different lives, we have different jobs, and some of us have kids. Some of us have to wait till the kids are asleep.

You and I both know there are people out there who would do this. Same way people are willing to wait and borrow a physical copy of a game from a buddy. PS3 had and I believe still has a system where they let you share digital games. I believe it was at first up to 4 friends… but the devs did not like it at all. It was later changed to just 2 other “friends” granted it is/was never as robust as what MS had planned. But at this point we’ll never actually know what they had planned no matter what they say.

Sony and MS has done this in the past, they say it will be a certain way… but when you finally get it it’s different. Sony and MS promised a lot at the beginning of this Gen, some of those promises were never met.

          July 8, 2013 at 8:32 pm

The family plan was not a 1 hour demo. If you only could try the demo of games from your “family plan”, the game demos would get much less exposure than the game creators would want. Demos are made for exposure to as many people as possible

Microsoft officially, and X1-engineers unofficially have both confirmed that sharing contained the complete game, but only one person in your “family” could play it at one time (in addition to you). So, family members could “lend” from your digital library, and it was “put back” when they stopped playing.

Kind of like inviting a friend to your house to play co-op, only your friend doesn’t actually have to come to your house. Great for long-distance gaming friends.

The game could only be shared with one of the 10 people at a time, so if two friends loaned a game, and both wanted to play at the same time, any one of them, or both, could purchase it digitally (very easy since they would have the game digitally already)

Thusly, the family plan would incentivize more game purchases while also adding value to the customer.

It was a tremendous win-win, but microsoft didn’t show it off enough, and peoples fear of change seem to have pushed that idea to the trash.

Hopefully, Microsoft will push to make something like that happen for your digital game library.

No. It’s not extreme. It’s how the free market works. If you want to be controlled like a sheep consumer, then that’s your choice. But you should be smarter than that because what you purchase and the companies you support determine the outcome for the next generation of products.

The ignorance to how the market works and how consumers win with people like you is appalling to us consumers and gamers who actually care about our freedoms and our privacy. Reading and listening to comments like yours only proves the rampant ignorance among our community. You would do well to get educated and start exercising your freedom before you blindly throw in the towel and subjugate yourself to the result of your own stupidity and people like you.

You’re using their product. The use of a companies product is very much the same as supporting the company. You may not be giving them money but you are +1 to their numbers which they use in marketing and advertising, etc. If you DONT LIKE MS and DONT WANT TO SUPPORT them or their PRODUCTS, then USING a product like Windows, free or not, is still supporting them and makes you a hypocrite. But I guess by your logic if you become a thief and steal the product then you aren’t supporting them? Hmmm…so you wanted their product so bad that you stole it. You WANTED an MS product…No one forced you to use it, you wanted it and got it…yet you don’t support or like MS. Oo

I think you are digging just alittle deep there. Considering Microsoft wasn’t always a shady money hung..oh wait they are and always have been, even before they made consoles. If someone is pirating windows they are most certainly NOT supporting windows Sir. They are infact stealing and basically giving Microsoft a Big F@#K YOU. Just by saying that you clearly are running out of an argument at this point digging as low as saying using windows on a PC stolen or not is still supporting the company. I am a PC Gamer and even I think thats stupid. But seriously though Keep on thinking that way if that is what makes you sleep at night. The truth is the best value for your money would be in terms of exclusives and hardware. Those 2 things are what will separate the consoles. “So you wanted their product so bad that you stole it.” THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT? If someone walked into your house and stole from you and walked out, how exactly are they supporting you? In anyway?

While I agree that Microsoft was pushing it, I also think you have to keep your eyes open for Sony. You can’t hail their policies as a second coming of Jesus; no one knows what was going on behind closed doors and maybe Sony even had similar plans for DRM as Microsoft but changed their route last second due to the obviously non consenting public reaction to the Xbone. Not to mention those snarky PS4 adverts showing you how to share a game. Sure, they were funny, and sure Sony did have a point, but it was a dirty trick. The public reaction to Microsoft was bad enough. Oh, and Sony’s just as big a corporation as Microsoft.

That said, the PS4 looks to be a really promising console, what with the superior specs. But I also think Microsoft’s console can really offer something as well (Kinect seems really cool and the console seems very flexible)

I honestly doubt that Sony’s that dumb to risk the Playstation brand’s reputation even further just by having DRM inside PS4 after they worked so hard to get the PS brand off the ground after what happened to them with PS3 with the $600 price tag.

Plus DRM isn’t exactly built-in inside the PS4 like Xbox One is. If anything, it’s more or less like with PS3.

      Contempt for your privacy how?
Are you one of the ignorant fools who think that the Kinect would stream uninteresting video of you playing videogames out to the internets without your permission?
Do you understand that there are differences in the world, and that region locking can help gaming economically in countries like India?
Do you understand that you would still be able to sell your used games at gamestop, but now when your disc breaks, your game is ruined?

Do you understand that you cannot digitally lend your little brother, cousin or friend a game anymore, because of people like you, fearing change and instead of having the mind to understand that everything doesn’t have to be made to be the exact same as you are used to, but whine and complain so that microsoft, that cares about the consumer, totally changed their policies for YOU!

Me on the other hand, a person who embraces technology and who wants the industry to be better connected, with more push on the digital market (which will in turn be awesome for developers and gamers) I wanted those features. I’m not an ignorant who doesn’t understand how the kinect data-stream works, and I’m pissed that technologically conservative people throw a shit-flinging contest as soon as things are different than what they are used to.

If you are boycotting microsoft for actually listening to your wishes, I hope the games you like stop being made.

Looks like the PS4 holds all the ace cards this time round, it’s
more powerful and cheaper – this is Sony’s revenge. The PS3 lost to X360 in the
US and UK (the 2 biggest console markets outside Japan) because
it was too expensive and was released later, but worldwide the PS3 has now
outsold the X360 78 million to 77 million. Predict the PS4 will a massive
success just like the PS2. The time is absolutely right for the next gen
consoles for two reasons, gamers have seen all there is to see from the current
gen consoles, and any gamer above the age of 5 is fed up crappy mobile Ios and
Android games with horrible touch controls and rubbish graphics. PS4 ftw.

The numbers are screwed anyway. Consider how many of those “sold units” of 360’s are red ring replacements. I’ve had a total of four 360’s, which include two replacement units for my original 360 and another one I bought when they redesigned it to the “slim” version. I’ve only had one PS3. Not to mention the 360 has been available for purchase for more than one full year longer than the PS3. It’s quite stupid for these so called “games journalists” to tout an xbox 360 advantage when there is nothing of the sort. If you mean to say the 360 enjoys a sales advantage in the US or the UK then say that, because the PS3 has the advantage almost everywhere else. Get your facts straight John Gauder.

I think both the PS4 and X360 will sell huge out of the gate, the graphics and immersion of the games will be unparalleled. The time is absolutely right for the next gen consoles for two reasons, gamers have seen all there is to see from the current gen consoles, and any gamer above the age of 5 is fed up with crappy mobile IOS and Android games with horrible touch controls and rubbish graphics. PS4 ftw.

This ideal to buy all systems to support the industry or because you’re a real gamer needs to stop. That’s not even a realistic thing to ask upon someone, and it’s based on nothing anyway. People are going to buy what they want and can afford.

this is just speculation, none of these specs have been confirmed. All Sony says is 1.84Tflops and GDDR5, and MS is all about the Cloud and 5 billion transistors…. =/

It’s also worth mentioning that the PS4 GPU has 8 Asynchronous Compute Engines each with 8 Compute Queues. This increases the compute granularity by 700% over the standard GCN1.1 implementation in PC GPU’s.

MS have made no mention of there compute abilities yet. But this does seem to be a PS4-specific customisation which Sony brought to the table.

Don’t expect much superiority in multiplatform games. Microsoft has a strict (extremely and outrageously butthurt) policy on games. No multiplatform game can have a superior version on the other console. At best they can be tied. This might scare away some developers to Sonys’ side (which is great) but most will just keep them even. But when it comes to 1st party games, oh man microsoft is gonna get TROUNCED. You thought Uncharted 3, God of War Ascension and The Last of Us kicked some Xbox ass, wait until you see this beast of a console. And unlike last gen, these hardware differences are wayyy more significant. The 360 had a better GPU and Ps3 had a better CPU/SPU combination.Ps3 had Blu-ray, 360 had what it had. It was more even, but now, Microsoft is FUCKED.

    • Arron Clements

      July 5, 2013 at 11:03 pm

They ability to flex that muscle will be weakened if enough people buy the PS4 over the XBONE, then it will be profitable enough for third party publishers to be able to tell MS to stick their multiplatform policy.

Games like Final Fantasy XIII would like to have a word with you on that, & it was way better on PS3 than on 360; more than just graphics.

It just proves that this so-called “policy” of theirs is all bunk.

No it’s not, its official Microsoft policy. And FF13 wasn’t that different. The visuals and performance were a little difference and the ps3 had 1 disc vs the Xbox 3 or 5. Thats cause of the superior blu-ray disc vs dvd. Overall they must be similar. Look it up

“3rd party developers are going to make Xbox One the lead platform for most of their games because it’s weaker!”

Um, wrong, wrong, wrong. People get far too hung up on the “lowest common denominator” bullcrap. All LCD will limit this generation is the overall design of a game, not the graphics/visual effects or performance and the XBO isn’t so underpowered that developers won’t be able to design a game that will on PS4 but not XBO, they’ll just scale it down. LCD has never been a factor in the past when it comes to making one version of a game look/run better than another and it won’t change now. Besides that, a lot of multi-platform games are going to have the PC be the lead platform due to the three sharing the same basic architecture making porting extremely easy compared to this generation. Engines can be scaled to fit the specs of each platform just as PC games are scalable to run on different configurations of hardware. This idea that developers are only going to aim for “parity” is ridiculous and has no historical basis.

The PS2 was the lead platform last generation for most games but that didn’t stop the few multi-platform games that made their way to the XBox or Gamecube from looking and performing better, even games made around the GC managed to make it to the PS2 though with significant visual downgrades like RE4, the performance gap between the PS2 and Gamecube isn’t that far off from the difference between the XBox One and PS4. Even if the XBO gets deemed lead platform (it won’t) due to a larger user base it’s not going to stop developers from taking advantage of the PS4’s greater horsepower and it’s not going to require a greater amount of resources to do so. Anything the XBO can do the PS4 can do better, simple as that.

The difference early on might not be that big as a lot of multi-platform games are still being designed around current gen console specs but once developers move on the difference is going to be more apparent and the gap will widen. If the PS4 runs away with this generation we could see a lot of developers/publishers just not bother with a XBO version but with the ease of porting I doubt the difference in user base will be big enough to lead to that unless XBO game sales are terrible.

We cant allow third party developers to hurt Sony again. The PS3 is a lot more powerful than the 360 but third party developers made sure the games are the same on the two consoles. The PS4 though will be easy to develop on so no more excuses. Push the PS4 as hard as possible and downgrade the Xbone games if needed. Don’t be lazy or let Microsoft pay to get equal games.

50%… not 30%… 1.2/2=0.6TF, 1.8/3=0.6TF, If You look at 1.2/2=0.6TF and that is 100/2=50%… than 50%=0.6TF. PS4 has 1.8TF, which is 50% more. So XBO has 50+50, PS4 has 50+50+50 that is one more 50 than XBO. 1/3 more power is not 30%.

I’m probably getting the xbox. If you’ve ever used a google TV or a good web connected TV then you can really see the value in the xbox one. The GTV system I was going to get was about $200. The brings the gaming cost consideration two about $300 for me because it includes the tv features. Having had the Move on ps3 I can say the few games that used it worked well, but I’d also have to emphasize “FEW”. Without buying the new move camera, which apparently people are raving over having that option, the light on the back of the ps3 controller is doing nothing but draining the battery faster. I’m looking forward to playing COD and tapping my temple to mute the mic or to switch to a heat scope etc. (concepts). Then after I finish playing I can just say “ESPN” to watch tv, or “Youtube, Key and Peele Pizza delivery” to watch a funny skit. I dont really see there being a big diff (at least at first) in the graphics from cross console titles…and with the cloud, all the resources that ps3 is using to run AI etc. wouldn’t be an issue on the xbox which may level the spec playing field…i guess? I know the ps4 sounds like a bet (I was leaning there too before the xbox “180”), but when you see Windows apps, tv integration, great games and the XBLive software that trumped PSN the answer was obvious for me. Always on doesn’t bug me too much. My Wii U sits in it’s stand with the cam and mic facing me and it’s always on (Hit the tv button on the gamepad if you think I’m lying). This is just me ranting. Sorry, Ive been hitting the 4th of July juice. Good day gents.

Sounds like you were already looking for a TV control type gadget and the xbox one happens to fit that (good for you), the question though is for the majority of people where their focus is really on games, will those additional gadget type features really factor that much in their buying decision (over PS4)…

I’m neutral on console performance, until both consoles are actually out. Right now ANY comparisons, while entertaining are essentially meaningless. They said all the same things about the PS3 vs. 360 and neither really had the upper hand against the other despite the PS3 having the performance edge on paper as well as not nearly as many RROD type issues. The real benefit is the competition that gives consumers great games no matter what console you choose. I will probably end up being both a whore for Sony and Microsoft as I plan to buy both.

The PS4’s GPU is way better than the Xbox One’s. 7GB (rumoured to be 7GB or 8GB with another chip or something with the OS, guess we’ll find out at gamescom, most likely 7 though) of GDDR5 RAM FOR PS4 VS 5GB of DDR3 RAM for XB1. Man! PS4 is a tech beast! We won’t see the difference straight away, I’d say in 2-3 years, when games use more RAM. By that time we’ll see some seriously scaled down multiplats for XB1 or who knows, maybe the PS4 will get 3rd party exclusives, just cos they can’t run on XB1. FFXV and KH3 will run bettr on PS4, but the difference won’t be that noticeable. But when games like FFXV-2 and KH4 come out, that’s when we’ll see the difference, if those two games are on XB1 at all.

“…if developers use the Xbox One as a lowest common denominator and
develop using its specs, then we won’t be seeing a lot of differences
    between the two.”

And perhaps you now know why PC gamers have been getting shafted this gen, and why they are so angry about it.

That being said, tech specs and numbers only go so far in the deciding factors as to which console is “better.” For instance, if a player has built up gaming relationships on a certain console and wishes to maintain them, then their obvious choice is to stick with the next iteration of the console, regardless of tech specs or even price.

I can live with the fact that PS4 is more powerful, since powerful specs is not why I game on console – it’s for the social aspect. I have many friends on xbox 360 that I wish to continue playing with, which means buying an Xbox One. There are other deciding factors as well, such as available games, (PS exclusives don’t interest me at all) the controller (I despise the PS controller) the online service (XBL is just overall a better service – at least for me.)

There is also the issue of what the devs are able to do with the hardware. PS3 boasted superior tech compared to the 360, yet it was a nightmare to develop for, which resulted in many multiplat games looking the same or worse on PS, and in some cases, they were virtually unplayable.

When comes to playing games to the maximum potential, I have a gaming PC for that, where I can run any game on max settings, something neither of the upcoming consoles can do.
