Sony has released its financial figures for Q1 fiscal year 2013, and as expected the console sales are in a decline due to the next-generation in the horizon.
The PS3 shipped 1.1 million units bringing its life time total to 81.5 million units. It’s important to note that this also includes the PS2 sales but since they discontinuted the system before Q1, the entire 1.1 million is just for the PS3.
By comparison, the Xbox 360 is at 78.2 million sales. PS3 seems to be ahead at this stage but it depends on how many PS2 units Sony sold.
The company made a $35 million profit and the good news is that their TV division is profitable now. Kaz Hirai seems to be turning around things and the measures he’s implementing seems to be working.
