The Microsoft Gamescom press conference went pretty well where they demoed a bunch of games and announced new features for the Xbox One. But one thing was missing: Kinect.
Considering Microsoft was pushing the device when the Xbox One was launched and had made it mandatory, it seems like they are slowly backtracking now. Not many games have been announced for the Kinect and it doesn’t look like the future seems bright for the device especially with a cheaper non-Kinect console which costs $400.
Here’s what Xbox boss Phil Spencer had to say about the lack of Kinect at Gamescom in an interview with CVG.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s me but I always feel that playing Kinect games on stage is always a little tough, because it’s just too easy for people to make fun of how people look when they’re jumping around playing. And then if you show a Kinect game without somebody playing you sort of lose what the game is about,” he revealed.
“We showed Fruit Ninja Kinect 2 on stage because we think that people get how you play that. We think the best way to get fans on with Kinect games is to put them on the floor here and have people come and try them. I just think that’s an easier way to show the games. Maybe that’s my failing, but that just kind of my feeling on it.”
