EA has confirmed that it has dropped online pass from their games.
They say that it was solely due to player feedback and it could also be due to the new management that is in charge at the company. John Riccitiello left EA after being CEO and he may have been the proponent of online pass which the EA management doesn’t feel like it’s a necessity anymore.
Sony still uses online pass for their first-party games and they have not confirmed anything yet.
“Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass. None of our new EA titles will include that feature.” EA’s John Reseburg told Venturebeat.
The program may not have been profitable or may have hurt their sales since making this decision solely based on player feedback is unprecedented for a gaming publisher. But hey, that’s what they said.
