New Killzone: Shadow Fall Screenshots Show Highly Detailed Textures

killzone shadow fall 2

We have some new screenshots for Killzone: Shadow Fall which you can check out below.

It shows minute details on the character models and also the texture work. The game is a launch title for the PS4 and was first shown at Sony’s PS4 reveal conference back in February.

The game was running on 3GB of RAM and had up to 40,000 polygons. The extra RAM in the system is really helping developers to create some amazing looking character models as you can see in the screenshots below.

Note: The first pic is from an older build. The second pic shows the model from the latest build.

New build vs old build comparison:

so making everything foggy and blurry in the distance is the way they can have one detailed guy in the forground, not impressed.

    • Ricaro Mikale

It’s called depth of field and is actually a performance intensive feature.

      • Dakan45

Actually its a console trick to hide detail and its called blur, killzone has been doing it since ps2.

Also killzone uses 4.8gb out of 8gb with the cpu and gpu memory combined.

        • Tor Einar Olsen

Don’t you mean 4,5GB? This is what the demo used back in february. What they use now is anybody’s guess, since this has not yet been made public. We have to wait at least 4 more days…

          • Dakan45

there is 200 mb spare that is shared by both so 4.7-8gb

Considering the os of wiiu is 1gb and the xbone is 3gb, id say the os of the ps4 is gonna be massive too, dont forget it can record games and share video footage.

Also shadowfall is your typical linear scripted corridor streaming game. If it had big maps it would use more ram. So id say about most games will use about 6gb in an average with os combined.

          • http://www.hesido.com/ hesido

You lost me at “if it had big maps it would use more ram”. Compared to which game’s RAM usage do you make that assessment?

          • Dakan45

Listen games work by streaming on consoles because they lack ram, they stream resources, thats why many games are linear and lock doors behind you or take a while to open doors like say dead space.

Bigger maps= more ram. Compare the maps of bioshock with bioshock infinite or crysis 1 with 2 and 3. The better the graphics, the smaller the maps have to become. Games like far cry 3 or just cause 2 that have great graphics and big maps use instances instead of diffirent objectes and scripts, so it is less perfomance heavy and they also use the same textures all over the place.

          • Dakan45

However downvoted this is an idiot, leave it to consoletards to downvote what they dont understand and listen to praise of a console that magically does super duper graphics because it runs on unicorn puke and dreams.

          • http://www.hesido.com/ hesido

This is not an answer to my question. You can’t look at Shadow Fall’s ram usage and claim it has small maps. Just as you can’t look at Just Cause 2’s ram usage and claim it has big maps.

          • Dakan45

“You can’t look at Shadow Fall’s ram usage and claim it has small maps.”

            FACEPALM

            FACEPALM

            FACEPALM

In other words bioshock infinite has more rage usage than bioshock 1, so it has “bigger maps”

Crysis 3 has more vram usage so it has “bigger maps” than the first one.

Also the RAM usage you saw was for that very demo NOT the actual game, so you cant base the game having big maps from a short linear demo, let me remind you of bioshock infinite E3 demos that had large maps, yet neither of them was in the game. Or the far cry 3 demo that had bigger enemy camps when in the actual game they are a hut or two. Or alien colonial marines that they made the maps smaller and removed objects and lighting in order to fit the game on ps3 ram.

Just cause 2 just like far cry 3 have the SAME resources all over the place. The same textures pasted everywhere, you dont need more ram for the same texture, they are not diffirent entities but instances (vitrual clones, not even copies), thats why it has a large map, if it had more textures and diffirent objects, the game will be more demanding. Example AC3 has the same characters and buildings, you will often see them doing ther same thing as the guy next to them, thats becasue they are not seperate object but the same objects with a vitrual clone.

Ok, this is the last time I’m posting to you about this subject, it seems you are trolling.

“so you cant base the game having big maps from a short linear demo,”

            Exactly my point.

I’m NOT saying it has big maps, or small maps. Why don’t you understand that?

I said: “You can’t look at Shadow Fall’s ram usage and claim it has small maps.” not to imply that its ram usage proves it has big maps, I said it because you said “if it had big maps it would use more ram”.

          • Dakan45

FACEPALM, you cant possibly not understand this after all that explaining, so screw off you troll.

          • Orlɛanž

“Also shadowfall is your typical linear scripted corridor streaming game. If it had big maps it would use more ram.”

So you played the game? How was it? And how long is the gameplay, since you played the game. lol

          • Dakan45

            WATCH THE FUCKING TRAILER

Its a linear shoter that streams maps and removes everything behind it, it is not a new open world or semi linear experiance with some new amazing mechanic that will change the fps genre,it is JUST another killzone game.

          • extermin8or2

Go look at infamous second Son…

          • Dakan45

            what about it?

          • Dakan45

            – moderated.

          • extermin8or2

So we’ll use Infamous:Second Son to judge?

          • Dakan45

ah ok,but fps have far far more detail than open world games. Thats why they are more perfomance hungry

          • http://www.techcore.co.mz/ Hélder Chamba

No no de demo used 3.5+ GB less that 4

        • SecondSon

Dakan45 the funny thing is if every game uses around 6GBs of RAM than none of those games will run on the Xbox One because it only had 5GB for video games with Kinect and Windows OS taking up 3GB!

Remember PS4 is made for games and it is expected to only use 1GB of RAM.

You want 6GB for your open world games?

          Sony gives you 7!

          • Dakan45

Fine lets make it 5gb then. PS4 had GDDR5 so it can cycle ram usage faster, so it doesnt need to use as much ram. You are correct.

1gb fos OS? Maybe But not less as some say that the os will be mere megabytes.

          • extermin8or2

See I’m still not convinced Sony haven’t mentioned this other compute unit for background process and the OS with it’s own seperate unspecified amount of RAM for the OS-so games are using the pool of 8GB RAM…. (If that’s not what they’ve done-thy should have :P )

          • Dakan45

The 8gb is a myth, those 8gb are NOT vram, they are ram that can be used for various tasks ,expect cpu and os to use plenty of it.

          • Roger

Newsflash: NOPE! Games on the Xbox One can use the full 8GB minus 100MB for the hypervisor OS and the Game OS (it’s basically the Windows NT6.3 kernel with added mechanics).
The system OS (limited version of Windows 8.1) uses up to 3GB of memory for its apps but the Xbox One’s hypervisor OS creates a static cache on the harddrive that it quickly accesses with one of the 4 Move engines.
Sorry to burst that NeoGAF myth again but you dumb N4G/GAF paupers without a brain can’t seem to get anything right.

          • tigertomspill

            That makes sense to me

          • extermin8or2

I’m pretty certain several developers have said otherwise…. So unless you’re a developer and can prove it? On a totally separate note it’s apples vs potatoes anyway-8GB of GDDR5 should not be compared to 8GB of DDR3- for graphics tasks the latter will always lose as it’s slower- for system based multitasking the latter will have a slight performance edge as it has lower latency- but what would you rather your GAMES CONSOLE can do; play games with better graphics and resolutions OR multitask better… I know what I’m PAYING for when I buy a GAMES console.

          • tigertomspill

I have not seen any article that said it will take 3gb of system memory only 3 OS maybe 3gb on the hard drive..

          • extermin8or2

There are several, 3OS running on the same hypervisor and all those multitasking apps MS are promising, and low bandwidth RAM-it’d better have 3GB reserved else those features wont work….

    • http://www.hesido.com/ hesido

Idea about graphics, you have none.

      • Dakan45

He has ton, you dont have shit on the other hand.

        • http://www.hesido.com/ hesido

The density is high with this one. Please be civil.

    • Josiah Smith

Like in Gears of War as well?

    • Dakan45

Far cry 3 uses that trick to cover up the detail in long distances, or shouldi mention killzone doing it with animations since ps2?

  • mike

Sure, all this is awful compared to the 1000000 polygons DOG on cod ghost ;)

  • joe

looks awesome. I guess some xboys here are a little jealous?

  • Roger

Doesn’t look impressive at all. More $0ny overhype and underdeliver.

    • Orlɛanž

With the Xbone being below 1.2TFlops, it’ll look way worst than this.

      • SecondSon

You are full of crap 1000000 polygon dogs!
Call of Cod with smart AI!
Xbox One has proved its self to look slightly worse than the PS3s Last of US graphics!

        • extermin8or2

tbf COD always looks shit, and that isn’t a new engine from scratch it’s running on…

    • the_espresso_kid

Go ahead, keep saying that to make yourself feel better.

  • flush

    That’s a lot of belts.

  • Heavenly_King

those 8 gigs of ram are already doing wonders! I love how the game looks.

    • Roger

      It only uses 4.7.

      • Heavenly_King

nope it does not. The OS uses 1gb only (2 at most).

        • Roger

Yeah, it does, Digital Foundry did an article on it.
Too bad MS will allow almost all 8GBs to be used for games with a fast swap OS system that Sony can’t pull off.

          • Heavenly_King

the OS of XB1 needs 3gb.

Looks like we have an Xtroll here.

          • extermin8or2

and it’s different RAM, less bandwidth so it’d be a silly comparision anyway-there’s a reason GPUs use GRAPHICS RAM-the good dedicated ones for PC anyway…

  • Todd Smith
