It’s a known fact that the Xbox One Japanese sales have not been great. The system launched with around 20k units sold and quickly dropped to a 1000 per week which is very poor by any standards.

However, it’s not as if PS4 is selling extremely well. Home consoles as a whole are struggling in Japan due to shifting market conditions.

Xbox boss for Japan Takashi Sensui recently said to famitsu that he was not satisfied with the consoles sales but they hope to do better in the future.

“It’s not as though we’re satisfied with the current sales state. We hope to continue through taking user feedback and improving [the Xbox One] and offering content that everyone can enjoy.”

“We are also aware that reaching out to let more people know about the Xbox One is vital. However, the current console generation has become very long. We hope to lay out a long-term vision and to focus on publicity for our console. Taking the first step was very important, and as for how to permeate the market from here, we hope to continue to do our best.”

The Xbox One meanwhile sold 100k units in China on day 1 so that’s a good thing.
