Kingdom Hearts 3 Now Runs on Unreal Engine 4, Luminous dumped

Square Enix have revealed that they have switched the engines for Kingdom Hearts 3 and it no longer runs on Luminous. Square Enix earlier had troubles with Crystal Tools which they dumped fast after Final Fantasy XIII came out.

Luminous was supposed to be their next-gen engine and Final Fantasy XV runs on it and looks gorgeous as well. However, for Kingdom Hearts 3 they have opted to use the Unreal Engine 4 instead of Luminous and the game’s director Tetsuya Nomura did not give any specific reasons as to why they did that.

But they were having a few rendering issues because of the engine switch and they are working with Epic Games to resolve the issues.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was revealed at E3 2013 and it is one of the most anticipated Square Enix games on next-gen consoles.
