China has confirmed that game consoles can be sold in the country now. China daily reports that two government officials had platform holders would need to seek approval from the government and register in Shanghai’s free trade zone before the consoles can be sold.
For games, the content should not be politically sensitive and violent. Game consoles were banned in the country for 12 years and there was a rumour that they were going to unban and the ban was under evaluation.
It’s still not as open as other developing countries but it’s a good thing. Next-gen starts later this year and the unban comes at a right time, however the ban has not been completely lifted.
We will keep you updated once we hear more on this. Stay tuned to Gamechup.
