Forza Motorsport 5’s AI will be greatly benefited by the cloud, Turn 10 boss Dan Greenawalt has revealed. It’s not required to do those computations on the Xbox One and the extra power freed due to that can be used to improve graphics.
Microsoft sure loves to bring up percentages and Greenawalt has said that the AI benefit is more than 600% in the cloud.
“When you’ve got a learning neural network, more computing power is nothing but helpful. Because what you’re able to do is process a lot more information, and you don’t have to do it in realtime on the box. And that frees up more of the box to be doing graphics or audio or other computational areas,” he said.
“So we can now make our AI instead of just being 20%, 10% of the box’s capability, we can make it 600% of the box’s capability. Put it in the cloud and free up that 10% or 20% to make the graphics better – on a box that’s already more powerful than we worked on before.”
They really need to show the benefit since talking about it now at this stage isn’t going to make people understand what cloud can bring to the table.
Recently Mark Cerny said that cloud cannot be used well to boost graphics but is useful for other things like matchmaking and so on.
