Far Cry 4 to be 1080p and 30 fps on PS4

Far Cry 4

Its been a stressful past few weeks for Ubisoft as they messed up by confessing they had locked the PS4 version of Assassin’s Creed Unity to avoid debates.

However, they did say that it wasn’t final and there is a chance the final build could hit 1080p.

So people were naturally wondering the resolution of Far Cry 4–another big Ubisoft game scheduled to release this holiday season.

Creative director of the game Alex Hutchinson has revealed that they are targeting 1080p and 30 fps on the PS4. This should really please most PS4 owners.

I think 30 fps for this game and this gen is unacceptable. You guys should be ashamed! Especially when you are dumbing down games to compensate for weaker consoles. Stop fucking up the good things you had going with your fans.

On next gen consoles, 30fps locked to a constant frame rate with no stutters or screen tear is perfectly fine for an open world game. 1080p detail is critical to capture the lush details and generate full immersion.

It’s a different situation on PC. When a PC drops to sub 60fps it is usually accompanied by the jitters and serious stuttering frames. It is the stuttering frames that is the objectionable thing people are seeing as lag, not the fact that it is only running at 30fps. If a console is optimised to run at 30fps rock solid with no stuttering frames, it will animate far superior to a PC running 30fps with stuttering frames.

60fps is really nice in FPS games if you can pull it off because fluid movement is important due to the fact that you pan very quickly all the time, so it is less tiring on the eyes. As for aiming, it is not the crucial thing. The predictability of movement is the important thing when moving the cross hair. A frame stutter with one frame lasting longer than all the others will make you over compensate the movement causing you to miss.

If all players in an FPS match are on a closed system all locked to a stable 30fps, then no player has a time advantage apart from internet latency lag from your ISP and aiming is easy to judge. The PC is an open system so you can pay to win by buying a high end PC running 120fps and have a reaction time advantage over a player running 60fps or 30fps.

Ahh the master race. Pay the high price and you can join the club and delude yourself into thinking that you are superior to everyone else. That does not apply with consoles because they are a closed system to keep everything fair with everyone on the same frame rate and resolution. But we all have no control over internet latency lag from our ISP which is the biggest problem with competitive multiplayer on all platforms.
