Dark Souls 2 announced, platforms confirmed, stunning CGI trailer shown

Demons Souls and Dark Souls were two of the best games of this generation, and there’s a third one announced now.

The VGAs turned out to be a pretty drab affair as usual, but the sun flashed its brilliant lights again. So praise the sun! Dark Souls 2 has been announced at the event and it is something that most hardcore gamers will be pleased to see.

They have released a new CGI trailer which shows how gloomy and fantastic the game is, along with a stunning new framework of how the battle system could be.

The game is co-developed by From Software and Namco Bandai, and they will be distributing the game in Japan and other regions respectively. The platforms are PS3, Xbox 360 and PC so far, and it’s nice to see them develop for the PC from the start and hopefully the community doesn’t have to fix all the issues this time.

There’s no Wii U mentioned which is not surprising, as they probably could not bother to develop for another system. We also do not have any release date for the game but it could be coming out next year or in 2014 seeing as how it was announced just now.

“Dark Souls II retains the core essence of Dark Souls while evolving to present new twists and challenges that are sure to please longtime fans and attract new comers to the series,” says Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing at Namco Bandai Games America Inc.

The game will also feature dedicated servers and an all new revamped multiplayer mode as well with a twist.

“This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series,” says From Software’s Tomohiro Shibuya, director of this game.

“The entire development team is striving to make Dark Souls II an experience that is fresh while not forsaking its roots in presenting players with challenging gameplay. Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey.”

There is a website too for the game which you can check out here. It just shows the platforms and a static image with audio, but damn, I can’t wait to play this already.
