Heartwarming Story of An American Game Designer Who Worked on Zelda: BoTW

Corey Bunnell wanted to work for Nintendo in 2007 and he had no idea how to do it. Internet sleuths from Reddit have found an old post, a decade old post to be precise, of him asking for help in a message board of how to work in Japan.

He posted that he wanted to work for Nintendo ever since he played Mario. While he had a vague idea of what to do like enrol in a game design school, he wasn’t yet sure of how he would do it.

“My dream is to live in Japan and work for Nintendo as a game designer. I realize this is a very large goal but it has been my dream since I first played Mario,” he posted.

“I need help figuring out how to achieve this goal. I know I would need to goto a game design school of some sort, and also get my Japanese to a level where I can speak and write professionally.”

He joined a university in Japan in 2010 and ended up working for Nintendo in 2014. He has worked as a wildlife programmer in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which is a highly rated game for the Nintendo Switch, and was featured in the credits of the game.

What makes this story heartwarming is this post in 2007 and what he has achieved 10 years after that.

This shows that you too can achieve your dreams if you work hard and persevere. Thank you for working on Zelda, which is one of the greatest games ever created.
