CD Projekt explains why there isn’t a PS3 version of The Witcher 2

Marcin Iwinski, one of the founders of CD Projekt Red, has revealed in an interview with MCV India why there isn’t a PS3 version of The Witcher 2.

The game came out on the PC and Xbox 360 and is widely regarded as one of the best RPGs ever made.

“No. We definitely would have loved to, but The Witcher 2 on PC was so big that making it work on Xbox 360 took us a year,” he told the site.

“The Xbox 360 was a more powerful and easier-to-code-on platform than PS3, so that would have taken us another year or year-and-a-half. Would it be so exciting for people to wait so long? And also, this would delay The Witcher 3 because we would have to put most of the team on it. We’d already made some sacrifices in the graphics for the Xbox 360 version.

“If you look at the Xbox 360 version launch time and compare it to the PC specs of that time, the difference is big, but if you were to add a year-and-a-half to that and compare PS3 specs to the PC specs of that time, the difference is huge. It’s mission impossible.”

Some people might disagree with the fact that he called the PS3 a weaker system, but it is definitely easier to code on the Xbox 360 than the PS3.

PlayStation fans will however not miss out on The Witcher 3 which promises to be a spectacular game on the PS4.

why would i as a PS3 user buy Witcher 3 without at least a Witcher 2?

Exactly or without the 1st one for that matter. They could have brought the 3rd one to PC by now if they just didn’t bother with the PS4 and Xbox One versions as I won’t be picking it up for my PS4. :/

dont worry, ill buy the ps4 version. I played witcher 2 on 360 without playing the first ever and I think W2 was one of the best games I ever played.

what an idiot, PS3 is a stronger system but they are so lazy to develop for it, many people will not buy witcher 3 because of this

PS3 may be stronger (but not by much) but it is also a huge bitch to develop for.

Exactly, what an idiot. A weaker system with better looking games. I do not disagree that PS3 is harder to code for. And that is a known thing. But most developers who spend enough time on it actually had their effort paid off. While I am not trying to make it sound like PS3 is more powerful. But the point is developers who have put in effort on that platform already prove it time and time again it is not a weaker system by any mean. Indirectly this moron is also telling us that oh you know why PS4 now has Witcher 3? Because it is easy to code for now. If not for that you can go one corner and suck thumb as we only intend to release it on XO. Screw such developer that only looking for easy way out.

My brother in law had never played the witcher as he didn’t have a PC to play it on, but he still bought the withcher 2 on the 360 and he friggin loved it too. If the game is as good as i think it will be, people will still play it.

Plus they will just probably tell you the story that’s happened as an into or something.

I find it funny that he said mission impossible. Otherwise, I think they could’ve made it work on PS3.

this is funny. doesn’t want to admit ps4 has better, more capable hardware than x1 (very dodgy, pro-ms answers), but comes and points out ps3 is weaker without developing for it? I know its harder, but far from incapable. lol if the hardware is somehow weaker, and ps3 exclusive visuals couldn’t be matched on 360, then I could only imagine the huge difference we’ll see between ps4/x1.

PS3 is more Power ful and way more capable for that game than 360….they got it backwards…..everyone already knows PS3 is more powerful funny they don’t lol

I get that the PS3 was a lot more difficult to develop for than Xbox 360, but why not let another studio with more PS3 experience do that? It worked for other games like Oblivion which probably wouldn’t have been on PS3 otherwise. A lot of PS3 users played that game who would have had to miss out on it if it was 360/PC only.

I’d like to see both games come to PS4 so that PS4 fans can see what happened before TW3. The story is a big part of the series, so it would be unfortunate if PS4-only users could only ever play the last game. I suppose just buying an Xbox 360 is another option, but even then you can only go as far back as the second game. Also that makes it quite expensive just for one game.

Well reading that up top tells me even these people who made the game don’t know to much everyone knows PS3 is way more powerful than Xbox 360….wouldn’t took shit for PS3 to run that game…..there’s PS3 games that 360 could never run …I have both so don’t wanna here it….
