AMD has released a video which shows why GDDR5 is better than DDR3. This is a weird comparison which uses real life scenarios so don’t expect technical jargon.
What they are trying to say is that GDDR5 offers more speed and reliability over DDR3, and this should be obvious to most people. However, the one problem with GDDR5 is the high latency.
Sony’s PS4 uses GDDR5 RAM while Microsoft’s Xbox One uses DDR3 memory. The CPU and GPU in both the consoles were provided by AMD.
The company urges people to upgrade to graphics card with GDDR5 memory in the video and most advanced graphics card ship with that memory so if you are going to be buying a card in 2013, chances are you will end up with that memory.
